As a young adult Samantha* has experienced homelessness multiple times. She opened up to a close friend about her living situation and Samantha’s friend strongly recommended Partners for Housing (P4H) Emergency Shelter. After working with the shelter manager and shelter advocate, Samantha had signed a lease for an apartment and began living on her own. But due to COVID-19, she had begun experiencing financial issues and could no longer afford living expenses. She soon then moved in with her brother but after a while the relationship between them became strained. Samantha experienced mental and physical abuse from her brother and knew this environment was not safe and reached out to P4H again.

Samantha is now working with the P4H staff to begin her next chapter in her life. She stated, “I look at my life as chapters…after that chapter ends something new begins, it’s always iffy between a new chapter, always stressful, and you’re gonna get hit hard but at the end of the day you’re gonna be okay.” Her positivity is something that she takes pride in and with the help and support from the P4H staff, Samantha knows she will reach her goals.

Samantha’s current chapter is not over. Shortly after telling her story, she had a job interview that she was very confident about. This job along with the many resources provided by P4H will assist her in receiving the income she needs to start working towards her next chapter in life which is securing housing and starting her own interior design business in the future.

I look at my life as chapters…after that chapter ends something new begins...you’re gonna get hit hard but at the end of the day you’re gonna be okay.

“They’re [P4H Staff] helpful in so many ways. They’ll help you look for housing, help you with food, they’ll try and get you anything that you need…I would recommend this place [P4H Emergency shelter] highly.”

“I’m definitely not where I want to be, but I’m glad I’m not where I was before.”

“I just want to let people know that they’re not alone, a lot of people are going through a lot of the same things…even if you feel alone, I promise you you’re not.”

“There is a lot of people who have this problem [Homelessness] and I’m just glad I found a shelter, but a lot of people have not found that.”

“I still have a lot to learn. I am very young, and I still have a lot of life in front of me…So from that being said this is just another chapter and soon I’ll have a brand new one.”
