PEDAL PAST POVERTY – APRIL 24, 2021!
Team formation and sponsorship is now open!
Thank you for your ongoing support and your commitment to helping raise funds to help people in our community achieve and maintain safe, stable, permanent housing.
How It Works: Teams of 10 compete against each other on stationary bikes. Each rider pedals for 20 minutes. Each team is asked to raise at least $1,000. The goal is to raise money and to have fun, so you don’t have to be an expert cyclist to join in. Plenty of contestants take breaks during their ride!
What is Pedal Past Poverty?
Pedal Past Poverty is a one-day and one-of-a-kind stationary bike race. This fun and energetic fundraiser is Partners for Affordable Housing’s signature event.
When is PPP?
The 9th Annual Pedal Past Poverty will take place on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the open-air venue, Blue Earth County parking structure on the corner of Cherry and 4th Streets in Mankato, MN.
How does it work?
During the PPP event, there are up to 40 teams, ten riders each, organized by companies and individuals interested in ending the issues of homelessness and affordable housing in the Mankato area. Riders ask their family, friends and others to sponsor and donate to their team. Teams then compete for a broad array of wild and wonderful prizes based on money raised and miles biked on race day.
Who will be the real winners?
Our Mankato neighbors who are experiencing a temporary housing crisis and are guests of the Theresa House, Union Street Place or Welcome Inn.
Why Ride?
Lack of affordable housing is a serious issue in Mankato. Mankato has one of the lowest supplies of affordable housing in the state of Minnesota. 54% of renters spent 30% or more on housing costs. 30% of Blue Earth and Nicollet County residents live at or below the poverty line. Poverty is a key contributing factor to a family losing their housing. Families at risk cannot afford the rent when the car breaks down, Mom’s hours are cut, or a child is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and extended hospital care is required. These individuals and families need somewhere to turn for help. Partners for Affordable Housing has been faithfully serving the Mankato area since 1985. We provide a stable and safe environment to our clients and offer supportive services, life skills training, resource connections, rental assistance, transportation, and home furnishings as our clients work towards gaining permanent affordable housing.
Team Tips: Fundraisers like bake sales or restaurant nights are an easy way to raise team money. Create a team theme and bring costumes and/or props to the event. Create fun team challenges to drive fundraising efforts. Encourage team member family and friends to come cheer you on at the event. Connect on social media and share your fundraising page.
