Mankato — March 10, 2017 — Mint juleps, fancy hats, and derby attire are all on tap for Partners for Affordable Housing’s newest fundraiser to hit the community. On Saturday, May 6, participants can support Mankato’s local women and family homeless shelters – the Theresa House and Welcome Inn and watch the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby.
In an effort to continue raising awareness of homelessness and lack of affordable housing in the Mankato community, Partners for Affordable Housing is hosting an inagural Kentucky Derby celebration fundraiser called Hats, Horses & Hope.
The event looks to be Mankato’s newest and happening event of the Spring season. Hats, Horses & Hope is an afternoon of great music, indoor and outdoor patio settings, delicious hors d’oeuvres, exclusive Derby-themed cocktails, games and of course, the greatest two minutes in sports: The Kentucky Derby.
Proceeds from this event directly support the work Partners for Affordable Housing does in the Greater Mankato area, including providing emergency shelter, case management services and transitional housing support to numerous families in need. “We continue to see a large need for our emergency shelter.” said Deb Newman, Executive Director, “Until we see income and affordable rent aligned, we will continue to see working families struggle to make ends meet in our community. Our shelters provide safe respite for these families and through our programming, clients are connected to community resources to help them gain and maintain the housing stability needed for long-term success.”
Partners was recently awarded new shelter designs as part of a Search for Shelter Charette, hosted by the AIA of Minnesota. “We applied for the shelter design process out of a desire to springboard our efforts of developing a new, larger shelter,” said Newman. “Far too many families are sleeping in cars, inhabitable locations or couch-hopping in our town. It is our goal to continue to refine these shelter design ideas and ultimately open a larger shelter for women and families in the Greater Mankato area.” Partners for Affordable Housing will have these shelter designs on display at the event.
Between 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M., with the race at 5:34 P.M., Hats, Horses & Hope will have a full schedule of activities to keep guests entertained. This stylish soiree will include a variety of games, a silent auction, red carpet photo opportunities, a variety of hat contests and more.
Tickets are on sale now for $50. Tickets can be purchased online at partnersforhousing.org/hope and will be available until Friday, April 28 or until sold out.
Sponsorships are also available for this event. Interested businesses should reach out to Partners for Affordable Housing directly for more information or visit partnersforhousing.org/hope/hats-horses-hope-sponsorships/.
